Kochi (Cochi) – Periyar- Gavi – Vagamon – Alappuzha (House boat) – Kochi / Kovalam
Day 1: Kochi
Arrival at Kochi Airport and transfer to Old Harbour Hotel for two nights stay. After noon, enjoy a cruise on the backwaters to see the Chinese fishing nets. Visit fish market, this place is famous for fishes caught by the Chinese nets. If you like, you can select from the fresh catch of the time and taste it prepared in different styles. Dine out from a good restaurant in Ernakulum city.
Day 2 Kochi
Morning sightseeing of old Kochi … the colonial influence of Kochi becomes evident when we visit the Jewish Synagogue, built in 1567, housing the Grand Scrolls of the old Testament and the Dutch place, with its 17 century murals of the Ramayana. We also visit St Francis’ church, where Vasco da Gama, the voyager who “rediscovered “India for Europe (Columbus having failed) was first buried. This evening we attend a Kathakali performance, a traditional dance of Kerala or Kalarippayatte, a traditional martial art of Kerala. Back to Old Harbour Hotel around 21.00 hrs.
Day 3: Kochi / Periyar Gama sanctuary
Morning drive to Periyar… the areas passing through are definitely picturesque and will be a treat to the eyes. Reach Periyar, the pride of Kerala and a testimony to nature’s splendor. The periyar wild life sanctuary is situated in the banks of the Periyar Lake. Check in to Elephant Court Hotel for one night stay. Rest of the day enjoy nature. If you are interested, after dinner at 2200 hrs we take you for a Guided Night trekking through the forest area to get the direct feel of night jungle life. After 3 hrs, back to the hotel.
Day 4: Periyar / Gavi
Morning boating at Periyar Lake. After this jeep will be arranged to drive to Gavi – A New forest Destination. After we enter the forest, the roof of the jeep will be opened to see the wild life. All through the ride you can watch animals on both side of the track from the open jeep. Reach Gavi and overnight.
Day 5 Gavi
Trekking Starts from Gavi located in the middle of the evergreen forest. Cross the lake and proceed to Meenar. This will take around 4 to 5 hours. Tent pitching and camp overnight. Guides and porters will follow you all along the trek.
Day 6: Gavi / Vagamon
Trek stars from Meenar camp and proceed towards Chenthamara Kokka passing through shoals – typical grass lands of the Western Ghats of Kerala. Then drive back to Vandiperiysr by jeep (2 hrs drive) and from there car will take you Vagamon (2 hrs drive)… check in to a hotel
Day 7: Vagamon
Engage in different activities like spice plantation steams, visit to near by ashram (meditation center), bird and butterfly watching etc. overnight.
Day 8: Vagamon / Alappuzha (house boat)
Check in to a house boat at 1200 noon. Village visits, fishing, bird watching etc. from house boat.
Day 9: Alappuzha
Disembark house boat and drive to Cochin for departure or to Kovalam for beach holidays.
